Character Entity References In HTML

HTML has two methods to refer to characters other than those in the file’s character set — numeric character references and character entity references. Numeric character references can refer to any character in Unicode using an escape sequence containing its Unicode code point, but these numbers mean little to anyone working on the HTML source code. Character entity references can refer to a more limited set of characters, but do so through mnemonic names, such as £ for a pound sign and ’ for a right single quotation mark. This article contains charts of all character entity references defined in HTML, showing the characters and the appropriate escape sequences.
